Indian High Commissioner to Maldives Akilesh Mishra has said that priority would be given to strengthening cultural ties between Maldives and India.

Speaking during ceremony held Friday night to officially hand over aid provided by Indian Cultural Center to 20 Maldivian artists who will be participating in Surajkund International Arts and Craft Festival in India; Mishra said that Maldives and India shared ties in various fields, and that culture and art was one of them.

Mishra said that training programs would be facilitated to both Indians and Maldivians in the field of arts and culture. And that Maldivians who go to India to study arts and culture would in turn be sharing some of Maldivian art and culture with Indians.

“It will not be just Maldivians who will be sent for training in arts and culture. At the same time, Indians will be sent to Maldives to study Maldivian arts and culture,” said Mishra.

In addition to artists participating in the festival, aid was also provided by ICC to the Boduberu group participating in the festival, Addu Women Society and Women Enterprises.
