Q 1. Do the Maldivians need to pay fee for Indian Visa?
A: No, all categories of Visas to Maldivians are issued on gratis basis.
Q 2. Do Indian nationals need to pay fee for Maldivian Visa?
A: No. Visa to Indian nationals are issued on gratis basis except Employment Visa for which the fee will be paid by the employer in Maldives.
Q. 3. I am a Maldivian national visiting India for Tourism? Do I need a Visa and what are the documents to be submitted?
A: Maldivian nationals are exempted from requirements of a Visa, in respect of visits or stays made for the purpose of tourism, that does not exceed a period of ninety (90) days* in India, provided that you are in possession of a valid Passport/travel document and evidence of sufficient funds to support your stay, subject to relevant laws and regulations for granting such Visa free entry.
*The Period of 90 days shall include any prior period of stay in India during a period of 6 months immediately preceding the date of your entry into India.
Q. 4. I am an Indian national visiting Maldives for Tourism? Do I need a Visa and what are the documents to be submitted?
A: Indians are exempted from requirement of a Visa, in respect of visits or stays made for the purpose of tourism, that does not exceed a period of ninety (90) days* in Maldives, provided that you are in possession of a valid Passport/travel document, accommodation booking and evidence of sufficient funds to support your stay.
*The period of 90 days shall include any prior period of stay in Maldives during a period of 6 months immediately preceding the date of your entry into Maldives.
Q. 5. I am a Maldivian national on a visit to India for tourism and if I fall ill and unfit to travel back to Maldives, can I convert my Tourist Visa to Medical Visa and the accompanying person’s Tourist Visa to Medical Attendant Visa?
A: A Maldivian national on Visa free entry for tourism purpose, if fall ill, rendering him/her unfit to travel to Maldives and requiring immediate medical treatment, beyond the period of ninety (90) days, FRRO/FRO (Foreigners Regional Registration Office/ Foreigners Registration Office) in India shall grant him/her a Medical Visa, on production of a medical certificate from the Government or a hospital recognized by Government of India.
The person accompanying the ill person may be granted a Medical Attendant Visa, for the purpose of attending to the relevant requirements of the person granted such Medical Visa, subject to a maximum number of two (2) Medical Attendants for each Principal holder of Medical Visa.
Q. 6. Can a Maldivian national get Tourist Visa from High Commission of India, Male?
A: Yes. Maldivian nationals can apply for Tourist Visa in High Commission of India, Male’ as per rules and regulations.
Q. 7. Can a Maldivian national get Medical Visa in India on arrival and the period therein?
A: Yes. Maldivian nationals are exempted from the requirement of a Visa, in respect of visits or stays made for the purpose of medical treatment that does not exceed a period of ninety (90) days, provided that they are in possession of a valid Passport/travel documents, relevant medical documents and evidence of sufficient funds to support their stay, subject to the application of the relevant laws and regulations for granting such visa free entry for medical purpose.
Q. 8. Can Maldivian nationals apply for Medical Visa/Medical Attendant Visa from High Commission of India, Male’ and the period therein?
A: Medical Visa can be granted from High Commission of India, Male’/FRRO/FRO (Foreigners Regional Registration Office/Foreigners Registration Office) in India for a period of 6 months and in deserving cases up to 1 year. Two medical attendants may be allowed on Medical Attendant Visa co-terminus with the Medical Visa of the Principal Visa holder. Medical Visa can be further extended in India, as per rules and regulations.
Q. 9. I am a Maldivian businessman travelling frequently to India for meeting with my clients. Would it be possible for me to get a long-term multiple entry Business Visa to India? What is the period?
A: Maldivian nationals are exempted from the requirement of a visa, in respect of visits or stays made for the purpose of concluding business agreements and/or contracts or other business transactions or to conduct business negotiations with their counterparts that does not exceed a period of ninety (90) days provided that they are in possession of a valid Passport/travel document and evidence of sufficient funds to support their stay, subject to the application of the relevant laws and regulations granting such visa free entry.
Maldivians can also be granted multiple entry non-resident Business Visa from the Embassy of India, Malé for up to five (5) years for travelling to India for the purpose of business transactions. Each stay on a Business Visa should not be more than ninety (90) days, with the possibility of extension for a further period of ninety (90) days. For stays more than 180 days in a calendar year, the visitor on a Business visa should get himself/herself registered or obtain the necessary approval from the FRRO/FRO (Foreigners Regional Registration Office/Foreigners Registration Office), within two weeks after the expiry of 180 days of arrival in India.
Q. 10. I am an Indian businessman travelling frequently to Maldives for meeting with my clients. Would it be possible for me to get a long-term multiple entry Business visa to Maldives? What is the period?

Q. 13. What will be the total period of visa free stay in India for Maldivian nationals for Tourism, Medical or Business purpose?
A: The aggregate visa free period for Tourism, Medical or Business purpose shall not exceed a total of ninety (90) days in a period of six (6) months immediately preceding the date of his/her entry in to india.

Q. 15. I am a Maldivian national proceeding to India for pursuing education. How can I get a Student Visa?
A: Student Visa applicant is required to fill up online visa application form at www.indianvisaonline.gov.in and thereafter printout of the visa application along with relevant documents such as admission letter from the recognized institution, proof of sufficient fund to support their stay in India, should be submitted at the High Commission of India, Male’
Multiple entry student visa will be granted to Maldivian students enrolled in full-time study programme in a Government recognized educational institution in India, for the duration of academic course of study or a maximum period of five (5) years, whichever is less.
Q. 16. I am a Maldivian student who has been granted student visa. Can my parents/guardian get a dependent visa to stay with me?
A: Yes. Multiple entry Dependent Visa will be granted to either or both parents/legal guardians (in the absence of parents) of a student, less than 18 years of age, for a duration co-terminus with the student’s visa.
Q17. I am a dependent visa holder as parent/guardian of a Maldivian Student visa holder in India, is my old parents/minor children entitled for a dependent visa to stay in India?
A: Yes. Visa for minor children and/or aged parents of the parents/ legal guardians holding appropriate visa accompanying the students on a case to case basis, as decided by the Indian Embassy/ FRRO/FRO (Foreigners Regional Registration Office/Foreigners Registration Office) in India.
Holders of such visas shall not engage in any business/employment activity in India.
Q. 18. I am a Maldivian student who has been granted Student Visa for higher education /research. Can my dependent minor children/spouse/parents get a dependent visa to stay with me?
A: Yes. Appropriate multiple entry visas will be granted to minor children/spouse/parents of the person on Student Visa for higher education and research visa for a duration co-terminus with the Principal visa holder.
Visas, as stipulated above shall require the production of evidence of sufficient funds to support the stay of the applicant, to be examined by the Indian Embassy/ FRRO/FRO (Foreigners Regional Registration Office/Foreigners Registration Office) in India.
Q. 19. I am a Maldivian national and I have got an offer of employment from an Indian company to work in India. Would it be possible for me to get long-term employment visa? For what period the visa will be granted?
A : Employment Visa applicant is required to fill up online visa application form at www.indianvisaonline.gov.in and thereafter printout of the visa application along with relevant documents such as employment offer letter from India, should be submitted at the Indian Embassy, Malé.
Maldivian national shall be granted multiple entry Employment Visa for travelling to India for the purpose of employment for the duration of contract or three years, whichever is less. Such multiple entry visas shall be granted to Maldivian nationals upon completion of all necessary procedures required, including the payment of visa fees. The processing and issuance of work permit as applicable shall be completed within 15 days of submission of application.
Q. 20. I am a Maldivian national who got employment visa for India; can my dependent (spouse, minor children and parents) get a dependent visa?
A: Appropriate multiple entry visas shall be granted to the dependents (spouse, minor children and parents of the Principal Visa holder and his/her spouse) of Maldivian nationals, who have been granted employment visa, provided the type and nature of employment undertaken under the terms of such employment visa, qualifies as skilled or professional employment, according to the laws, regulation or policies in effect from time to time within the territory of India.
Q. 21. I am an Indian national who got employment in Maldives. What is the period required for processing work visa?
A: The processing and issuance of work visa/ work permit will be completed by the Maldivian Immigration as applicable within 15 days of submission of application.
Q. 22. I am an Indian national working in Maldives. Are my dependents entitled for dependent visa in Maldives?
A: Appropriate multiple entry visas shall be granted to the dependents (spouse, minor children and parents of the principal visa holder and his/her spouse) of Indian nationals, who have been granted Employment Visa, provided the type and nature of employment undertaken under the terms of such Employment Visa, qualifies as skilled or professional employment, according to the laws, regulations or policies in effect from time to time within the territory of Maldives.
Q. 23. I am an Indian national staying in Maldives on dependent visa. Is it permitted to undertake employment under dependent visa?
A: No. Dependent visa holders are not permitted to take up any employment in Maldives.
Q. 24. I am planning to visit India to participate in a Conference. Do I need to apply for Conference Visa?
A: A Conference/Seminar Visa will be issued on gratis that would be valid for up to 30 days for individuals who wish to attend conference/seminar/workshop in India, as per rules and regulations of India.
