Leela Group to develop resort in Maldives - Vnews, 12 April 2016

Government reveals that talks are underway with Indian high-end hotel chain, the Leela Group, about developing a resort in Maldives.

This was revealed at a press conference held by the ministerial delegation that accompanied President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom on his official visit to India.

Addressing the press conference Minister of Fisheries Dr Mohamed Shainee said that the president’s policy in economics was expansive and that the utmost priority would be to strengthen mutual trade relations. He noted that even today, a number of Indian companies continued to invest in    Maldives.

Dr Shainee was optimistic about a positive outcome in the ongoing discussions with the Leela Group. He added that if the third, Maldives Investment Forum can be held in India, it would boost trade ties between the neighbors.

The Leela Palaces, Hotels and Resorts is an Indian luxury hotel group, founded in 1987 by C. P. Krishnan Nair, and owned by The Leela Group business conglomerate.

During the President’s recent visit to India, he stayed at the Leela Palace in Delhi.
