Online trade complaint portal

The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India, has developed an online platform dedicated to filing and tracking quality complaints and trade disputes. This initiative aims to address grievances from both foreign buyers dissatisfied with the quality of supplies from Indian exporters and importers facing issues with foreign suppliers. Moreover, it facilitates reporting of unethical commercial practices such as non-supply or partial supply of goods, deviation from agreed terms, non-payment, or failure to adhere to delivery schedules.

To file a complaint or dispute online, follow these steps:

  • Visit the DGFT website at www.dgft.gov.in External website that opens in a new window, navigate to Services, and select File Quality Complaints/Trade Dispute. Fill out the Online Application Form accordingly.

  • Upload relevant documents related to the quality complaint or trade dispute, ensuring they are in PDF format and do not exceed 5MB in size.

  • Choose the appropriate jurisdictional Regional Authority of DGFT/SEZ based on the address of the Indian entity. Refer to Appendix 1 of the Handbook of Procedures for clarification (available at https://content.dgft.gov.in/Website/dgftprod/a28207ef-6792-4d97-a291-7d443eb8e51c/HBP2023_Chapter08.pdf External website that opens in a new window PDF file that opens in new window. To know how to open PDF file refer Help section located at bottom of the site.).

  • Select the jurisdictional Indian Mission corresponding to the address of the foreign entity.

  • Upon submission, a Unique Reference Number (URN) starting with 'Q' will be generated and sent to the complainant's email address. It is essential to ensure that the provided email address is functional, as all future correspondence will be conducted through it.

  • In the future, the complainant may provide additional materials or correspondence to the Regional Authority/SEZ and Indian Mission. When doing so, the URN must be quoted in the subject header of the email without fail.

  • A 'View Status' link is available for complainants to track the current status of their complaint. This can be accessed at http://dgftebrc.nic.in:8090/TradeDispute External website that opens in a new window.

This streamlined process aims to provide efficient resolution of quality complaints and trade disputes, promoting fair and ethical trade practices.
