Registration of birth of a child and grant of Indian citizenship

1. For a child born in Cyprus to be registered as an Indian citizen, the application must be made online. For full information applicants are requested to visit the website of Ministry of Home Affairs http://indiancitizenshiponline.nic.in External website that opens in a new window 

2. The online application forms can be accessed by typing/clicking the below given web address:

3. After accessing the above mentioned website please select the form titled (For Registration of birth of a minor child at an Indian Embassy under Section 4(1) of the citizenship act, 1955)
 
4. Click ‘Apply Online’ button to fill up the form.

  • Online application form is meant for one person only. Separate application has to be filed for each applicant.
  • The online form should be filled in Block/Capital letters.
  • Furnish information exactly in the manner asked for in the forms, especially the names, address and date of birth.
  • Applicants are required to verify the application details before submitting the online application.
  • Once the online application form is submitted by the applicant,     further modifications are not allowed. Hence applicants are     requested to check and validate the details before submitting the online application form.


 5. On submission of the online application form, a MHA File number would be generated automatically and will appear on the screen as an acknowledgement. Applicants are advised to record the MHA File Number for future correspondence.

6. Applicants would then be required to take a print of the application as submitted by them. Lastly the applicant is required to put his/her inked Signature/Thumb impression at the designated signature box.
 * A person who has not attained the age of 18 years is considered as minor. Parents /guardians must sign in the column prescribed for them in the form.

8.    The signed hard copy of the online application along with requisite supporting documents for grant of citizenship need to be submitted to the Consular Section of the High Commission of India,  

Nicosia. The High Commission will validate and upload the scanned copy of the documents enclosed with the application form.

9. The following supporting documents need to be attached with the application:

  • A copy of the birth certificate of the child (issued by local  authority, please bring the original for verification)
  •  A copy each of the Indian Passport of both the parents
  • A copy of the certificate of Indian citizenship if acquired by registration/naturalization
  • A  copy  of the  marriage  certificate of the parents (must be Apostille)
  •  A declaration that the minor child does not hold a passport of another country (Affidavit in original).


 Note: The applicants are advised to go through the provisions of India Citizenship Act, 1955 and the rules framed there under before submitting the application for grant of Indian Citizenship.
