Public access given onboard India's largest aircraft carrier - February 16, 2016

Public was welcomed onboard Indian Navy’s largest aircraft carrier – INS Vikramaditya – which is visiting Maldives on its second trip outside India on Tuesday.

Public access has been provided from Tuesday morning until Wednesday evening.

A lot of Maldivians have already taken advantage of the opportunity and boarded the ship.

The 258 meter long, 60 meter wide INS Vikramaditya is the latest aircraft carrier to join the fleet.

It made its maiden trip out of India to Sri Lanka.

Second Commander of INS Vikramaditya, Janath Dhevli said that the purpose of the visit was to strengthen the ties between India and Maldives in the field of defense and security.

INS Vikramaditya is a 23-storey ship with 13 stories lying above sea level and 10 stories lying below.

INS Vikramaditya is also joined by INS Maisoor and INS Deepak in the trip.

The ships will stay in the country until Thursday.
