Indian navy aircraft carrier to arrive in Maldives - Sun Online News, February 10, 2016

AN Indian navy aircraft carrier is to arrive in Maldives next week as a gesture of friendship between Indian and Maldives.

Indian High Commission in Maldives released a statement on Wednesday saying that the navy aircraft carrier – INS Vikramaditya - would arrive in Maldives next Monday.

INS Vikramaditya is 285 meters long and 60 meters wide, and the newest aircraft carrier to join the fleet.

The ship participated in International Fleet Review held in India from February 7 to 9, and the trip to Maldives will be the first trip made by the ship out of India.

INS Vikramaditya will be joined by INS Maisoor and INS Deepak during the visit.

INS Deepak provided assistance during the water crisis that hit Male’.

Indian High Commission said that the visit by the navy vessels would represent the friendly ties between the two countries and the cooperation in the field of safety and security.

INS Vikaramaditya is to stay in Maldives until February 18. Opportunity to board the ship will be provided on February 16 and February 17.
