President India our closest partner in diplomatic, political relations- Sun Online, December 28, 2015

President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has said that India has been the Maldives’ closest partner in terms of diplomatic and political relations.

The President made this remark at a farewell call by Indian High Commissioner to the Maldives, Rajeev Shahare, at the President’s Office on Monday, 28 December 2015.

President Yameen expressed his gratitude to Shahare for his contributions during his time in office, towards strengthening and expansion of bilateral relationship between both countries.

The President and the High Commissioner highlighted areas to be further addressed in order to enhance the good working relationship between the Maldives and India, and discussed supporting each other in the international arena and in times of political distress.

Shahare said that it was a pleasure to have served the Maldives as the Indian High Commissioner, and expressed gratitude to the government and the President for the continued cooperation given to him during his tenure. He further said that he was happy to go back with a sense of achievement in solidifying the bond between the two countries.

The President was accompanied at the meeting by Minister of Foreign Affairs Dunya Maumoon and Under Secretary at the President’s Office Mohamed Naseer.
