Visit of Indian Dornier to Maldives

An Indian Naval Dornier from the Southern Naval Command was deployed to Maldives from 20 – 24 Jul 14. Cdr Anubhav Kumar, the Commanding Officer of the Dornier Squadron led the detachment. The aircraft is equipped with state of the art Maritime Patrol Radar, Infra Red Cameras and sensors to track sea going traffic in the region and carried out extensive flying operation during the period to undertake EEZ surveillance and look out for suspicious movements or vessels involved in illegal activities. The aircraft was supported by Maldivian Coast guard vessels on the surface and an MNDF observer in the aircraft. This joint exercise between the Indian Navy and MNDF is a step to strengthen the maritime security and ensure that the stability is maintained in the region.
