People of Faresmaathoda, participants of the community events,

Friends,

I am overwhelmed by the warm reception accorded to me by the people of Faresmaathoda. This is my first visit to the beautiful Huvadhoo atoll.

I am happy to join you all in the inauguration of the Faresmaathoda ‘Herahamagu Bageecha’.  I deeply commend the leadership role of H.E. Minister Aslam in the implementation of this project. Several of India’s projects in Maldives support local infrastructure development – benefits of which are meant to reach the local communities. The lush green park being inaugurated today is a perfect example of this!

I understand that besides being a venue for community gatherings and events, it will also provide an avenue for the young members for their fitness and outdoor activities. The availability and quality of green spaces and community parks is an indicator of the quality of life of the people who have access to them. India is privileged to partner with the Govt of Maldives on this project.

Development of local assets, and through it, local capacities, is among the key priorities of India’s grant assistance in the Maldives. We have supported, in the recent past, development of the Central Park in Hulhumale’ and Children’s parks across 67 islands of the Maldives. These are among the 45 projects in the Maldives being carried out under grant assistance of MVR 260 million from India.

High-impact community development projects are the heart and soul of the vibrant development partnership between India and the Maldives. These projects are customized to suit the requirements of local communities - the end-users and beneficiaries of these projects.

I am grateful to Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid and the excellent India-desk team from the Foreign Ministry for coordinating with the concerned Ministries and local authorities to implement these projects.

I congratulate the people of Faresmaathoda on the development of this ‘bageecha’ and hope that they make optimum use of it for recreation, community bonding and pursuing a healthy lifestyle. Like most of you present here, I too am keen to witness the events and competitions which have been planned. My best wishes to all the participants!

Shukuriyya
Thank you
