72nd Republic Day Celebrations

The 72nd Republic Day of India was celebrated on 26th January 2021 in the premises of the High Commission of India, Male’ by High Commission officials and select officials from the Indian PSUs in Male’.

2.     The event commenced with unfurling of the National flag by Charge d’Affairsa.i. Shri Rohit Rathish, followed by singing of the National anthem.  Thereafter, Charge d’Affairsa.i. read out excerpts from the address of Hon’ble President of India on the eve of the Republic Day. This was followed by a short cultural performance presented by students of the Indian Cultural Centre in Male’.

3.     Charge d’Affairsa.i., in his message to the gathering,recapped developments in the India-Maldives partnership in 2020, which, despite the pandemic, had continued to scale greater heights throughout the otherwise challenging year. He noted that India’s timely assistance to the Maldives to mitigate the effects of the pandemic had once again burnished India’s credentials as the first responder to crises in the Maldives. He added that the recent donation of 100000 doses of India-made Covid vaccine capped off India’s comprehensive support to Maldives to battle the Covidpandemic, and hoped that the inoculation drive in Maldives would begin soon.

4.     In deference to the Health Protection Agency guidelines in force in the Greater Male’ Region, Indian community members and friends of India in the Maldives were encouraged to participate in the Republic Day celebrations virtually through Mission’s social media accounts.
