Celebration of Independence Day of India in Maldives
The 67th Independence Day of India was celebrated in Maldives on 15th August, 2013 by the Indian High Commission and members of local Indian Community in the High Commission premises in Male’.
A function was held in the morning with the hoisting of National flag by the High Commissioner, H.E. Mr. Rajeev Shahare, followed by singing of National Anthem. The High Commissioner read out the address of the President of India to the Nation on the eve of Independence Day.
In his address, High Commissioner urged the members of Indian community to inculcate patriotic spirit and contribute to the welfare of the nation and the people. He highlighted the various facets of strong friendly relations between India and Maldives, particularly cooperation in the areas of Economy, Defence, Capacity-building, Culture, Education and Health Care. He appreciated the contribution of the Indian community to further enhance the ties and lauded the Indian community’s undertaking of various social welfare & cultural activities, which have been well acknowledged by the Maldivian public.
More than 250 guests, including Indians based in Maldives, as well as visitors from India, Maldivian guests and local media attended the function.
