Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) Programme

The Government of India offers various training courses under the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) programme to Uganda and Burundi, which contributes to capacity building. The ITEC programme is administered by the Ministry of External Affairs of the Government of India under which all expenses including international airfare, boarding, lodging, tuition fees, etc. are borne by the Indian authorities.

The ITEC programme was launched by a decision of the Indian Cabinet on September 15, 1964 as a bilateral programme of assistance of the Government of India. Under it and its corollary SCAAP, 156 countries in Asia, Africa, East Europe, Central & Latin America, Pacific and Small Island countries are invited to share in the Indian development experience acquired over five decades. India spends about US$ 11.4 million annually on ITEC activities. Details are available on the ITEC portal: www.itecgoi.in External website that opens in a new window.

Courses offered under ITEC Scheme in the field of:  Entrepreneurship, IT, Audit, Management, Education, Banking, Biotechnology, Journalism, Communication, Power Transmission and Distribution Management and Technologies, Design of Jigs and Fixtures, Advanced Computer Aided Manufacturing, Geo-informatics, Engineering and Technology, Human Resource Planning and Development, Government accounts and financing, Legislative Drafting, Parliamentary Internship Program, Standardization and Quality Assurance, Advance Finger Print Science & Computers, Information Technology in Law Enforcement, etc.

Participants must read through the instructions on the ITEC Website and apply through the same website. Print-out of a copy of the application is obtained after activating an link sent via your registered email ID, that is when an applicant can print out a hard copy of the application. The ITEC printed application form has some blank pages; language proficiency page, medical page, undertaking page and nomination page. Language page is filled by Indian Mission in Kampala for Uganda participants however for Burundi participants should use any English Training Centre in Burundi to have the language page filled. Medical page is filled by a registered medical practitioner, undertaking is filled by the applicant and the nomination page by the employer or Ministry of Foreign Affairs. All applications Forms must be forwarded through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Applicant’s country.

It should be noted that anyone who benefited before of any scholarship offered by the Government of India [ITEC/SCAAP, IAFS & ICCR] is not entitled to apply for this scholarship
