Brief Profile of Mr. Upender Singh Rawat

High Commissioner Upender Singh Rawat is an officer of the 1998 batch of Indian Foreign Service (IFS). He graduated from Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur. Prior to joining the Government of India, he was a Physics instructor.

After joining the IFS, as a career diplomat he served in various capacities, starting as Third Secretary in the Embassy of India, Buenos Aires where he also learnt Spanish. He has served in Indian Diplomatic Missions in Slovakia, UK, Mexico, Republic of Korea.

Prior to his arrival in Uganda as the High Commissioner of India, he was based in Panama, as Ambassador of India to Panama, Costa Rica and Nicaragua. He has also worked in Ministry of External Affairs, New Delhi as Joint Secretary in charge of Consular, Passport & Visa Division, Desk Officer on Consular & Extradition Matters, as Joint Secretary in charge of eGovernance & Information Technology and Cyber Diplomacy Divisions.

High Commissioner Rawat knows Hindi, Spanish, Garhwali, English and is learning Punjabi. He is deeply interested in various aspects and developments in the field of information technology. His interests and hobbies include fitness & wellbeing, reading, traveling, trekking, spirituality, meditation and yoga.

He is married with a daughter and a son.
